The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Chapter 3: HEARTBREAK (I)

A few weeks passed, and classes continued according to our timetable. As expected, Ahmeed and I grew closer. He is so sweet, always making me laugh. So I am never bored.

“Can you believe the latest gossip?” Desire rushed to sit beside me.

I shook my head. I had been too engrossed in my friendship with Ahmeed to worry about others.

“Is it Hameedat again?” I asked.

She shook her head. “George and Amira broke up,” she said.

My eyes widened. What?

Weren’t they the same people Hameedat was always using to compare her relationship? I didn’t even know when I burst into laughter. Even Anthonia that was sitting in front of me joined in the laughter.

“The funniest part is that Amira is already dating Senior Chinedu in SS2,” Anthonia added.

That shocked me even more. Wow! Anthonia knew the trending relationships. Thank God we have free period today, I shifted my chair forward so that our voices weren’t loud.

“Are you sure?” I asked.

Nafisa nodded. “It’s true. They’ve been dating for about three days now.”

I leaned back on my chair and smiled.
This is interesting.

Just then, George and Jerry entered the class. George looked like he was about to punch someone, while Jerry tried to calm him down. Almost immediately, Amira and Senior Chinedu walked in, laughing and displaying love.

Now I understood George’s anger. I felt pity for him, but this is what happens when you rush into a relationship with someone who broke up with your classmate.

I was about to ask if Hameedat has also heard about the break up, when Bashir came over again, begging us to help him win Desire’s heart.

We laughed because we’ve tried and it was a waste of time.

Bashir sighed and turned to Anthonia, professing his undying love to her. Can you believe?

“Leave me alone, Bashir,” Anthonia said firmly.

Bashir turned back to me and Nafisa, begging that we should help him with either Desire or Anthonia.

“Bashir, please—” Nafisa started, but she was interrupted by the loud slam of chairs.

Even I was afraid.

Felix was fighting with one stubborn junior student. As if that wasn’t enough, Amira and George started shouting at each other from opposite sides of the class, cursing out different names. The noise became too much that some teachers rushed in.

The issue escalated quickly.

Teachers heard about Amira’s relationship drama involving Bashir, George and Senior Chinedu but thankfully, it didn’t get to the school proprietress. They were seriously warned, and we were all grateful.

A month passed so quick and exam was fast approaching.

Amira and Senior Chinedu’s relationship became more serious and obvious, and teachers grew stricter with everyone that we began weekend webtest so that we were never less busy.

However, Krystal college students were still able to create time for relationships and excess drama.

Recently, Ahmeed and I barely spoke. He was always in the SS2 class. I knew he had an elder brother there, but not to the extent that he would be skipping classes too.

I was worried that he was becoming close friends with the SS2 boys but I couldn’t do anything because I wasn’t his girlfriend.

The bell rang, signaling the end of the school hours. So, I walked up to Bashir as he dropped the bell to advise him to stay away from Desire and Anthonia because Desire already threatened to involve her parents if Bashir continues to harass her about relationship while Anthonia was always crying anytime anyone mentions that Bashir likes her.

“Okay, I’ve heard you” He said, his tone flat. I know he’s disappointed but there’s nothing anyone else can do to convince either of the girls to date him.

“This is where you are,” Jerry laughed, sitting on Bashir’s table. “Your crush don get girlfriend.”

I ignored him. Jerry always joked about everything but something inside me believed him. So, I looked around and the class was almost empty.

I carried my bag and went to SS2 class but no one was there.

I sighed and checked the SS3 class. As I entered, I immediately apologized because I realized I’d interrupted something very private between Senior Chinedu and Amira. They weren't just cuddling like every other couples in school, she sat on the table and spread legs widely for him to come in between. His left hand was on her right thigh as they were kissing passionately.

My eyes widened at how far they were lost in each other's arms, they must have noticed my reaction because they separated and created a reasonable distance.

"I'm sorry" I quickly apologized and left the class.

Wow!

I continued my search because I knew my friends and Ahmeed were still around. I headed to the conference room.

When I opened the door, everyone quickly adjusted themselves, until they realized I wasn’t a teacher. Senior Olamide, Saheed, and Hameedat seemed to be in another intense discussion as Hameedat kept wiping the tears out of her eyes. I really wish she can just move on from this boy.

Khalid and Nafisa were cuddling and watching something funny on his phone. Oblivious of my presence, while Francis was with Rachel. Thank God most of the teachers were gone. I sighed again and stepped out, almost bumping into Jerry and George.

“You liar,” I snapped at Jerry. “Where is Ahmeed?”

“He’s at the back with Senior Wonuola,” George replied.

My heart dropped.

I walked there slowly and found them standing close, talking softly and his hands on her waist. They didn't even care that any teacher could find them here and punish them.

I should go home now but my legs are stiff, my eyes wouldn't blink. I just stared at them and wondered why he sent me mixed signals when he was into someone else.

Fuck.

I could feel my tears gathering in my eyes. I wasn't even in a relationship with him but it felt as though my heart was broken into pieces.

Why would he do this to me?

My unik readers, this chapter was a lot.

Why do you think Zara ignored the signs about Ahmeed earlier?
