Raised in Roses

Chapter 1: Morayo’s Big Home

Morayo lived in a very big house. It had shiny white walls and a beautiful garden with red, yellow, and purple flowers. There were swings and a small pool where Morayo played when the sun was hot.

Her room was the biggest room in the house. She had a pink bed with soft pillows shaped like hearts. Her closet was full of clothes, shoes, and pretty bags. If she wanted a new toy, all she had to do was ask her parents and they would buy it quickly. She didn’t lack anything.

Morayo was an only child. Her parents loved her very much. They gave her everything she wanted. If Morayo cried even a little, her mum would run and hug her. If she said she was bored, her dad would buy her new toys and games.

In Morayo’s house, many people worked every day. There were cooks to make her food, drivers to take her to school, and cleaners to keep the house sparkling. There were gardeners who cut the flowers and watered the plants. There were maids who washed her clothes and cleaned her big room.

Morayo never had to sweep, wash dishes, or clean anything. She just played, ate, and watched cartoons. When she left her shoes on the floor, someone picked them up. When she dropped food on the table, someone wiped it away. She didn’t even know how to make her bed, because someone always made it for her.

Sometimes, Morayo would sit by the window in her parent’s car and watch other children playing on the street. Their clothes were not new. Their shoes were old and dirty.

They looked happy, but Morayo thought, "They are poor. I am lucky I am rich."

Morayo’s parents sent her to a big school where rich children went. The school had air conditioners in every classroom. There were shiny school buses, big playgrounds, and a swimming pool. Everyday, Morayo wore her neat school uniform and shiny black shoes. She would pack her pink bag with nice books, pencils, and lunch boxes full of yummy food.

Sometimes, when she passed by children from other schools, she would laugh and say, "My school is better than yours!"

Morayo thought her life would always be easy. She thought everyone would always say "yes" to her. She did not know that life could change. She did not know that roses sometimes had sharp thorns. But for now, Morayo was happy in her big, beautiful home. She was a little princess in her own castle.
