Chapter 8: A New Turn

A few months after her graduation, Tolu got a small job as a receptionist in a little office. She answered phone calls, smiled at visitors, and helped write letters. The pay was not much, but it helped her take care of herself and support her parents.

With her first salary, she bought her parents new clothes and gave them money for food.

They were so happy. “You are a blessing, Tolu,” her mother said.

Tolu also saved some money and rented a small one-room apartment close to her new work. It was the first time she would have her own space. She cleaned it up, arranged her few belongings, and said a short prayer. “God, I’m thankful,” she prayed.

Meanwhile, Morayo’s life was changing too. Her parents were worried about her careless lifestyle. She had no interest in the family business. She only cared about parties and expensive things.

So they made a decision—they arranged a marriage for her with the son of another rich family.

His name was Kunle. He was rich, proud, and didn’t know much about love.

Morayo did not say no. She liked the idea of being married to someone who would continue to spoil her. They had a big wedding with gold decorations and cameras flashing everywhere. Everyone clapped and cheered, Morayo was very excited.

Back at Tolu’s office, something special was about to happen. Her boss picked her to travel for a business trip. She packed her clothes carefully and promised to work hard.

During the trip, Tolu met a man named Daniel. He was one of the most important guests at the meeting. He noticed how polite and smart she was.

“Where did you learn to speak like that?” Daniel asked.

Tolu smiled. “I just try my best, sir.”

He laughed. “You’re not like the others.”

Over the next few days, they kept seeing each other. Daniel liked that she was calm and hardworking. He asked her many questions and told her about his life too.

Tolu was shy at first, but soon she felt safe around him. He made her laugh, and he listened when she spoke.

When the trip ended, Daniel asked for her number. “I’d like to keep talking to you,” he said.

Tolu felt her heart beat fast. Something new was starting. Something she never expected and she was happy.
