A drop of tears fell from my eyes as I left Austin’s house but I quickly wiped it away. I stopped shedding tears years ago but I couldn’t deny the fact that I hate that things had to end like this between us.
I entered my car and sat quietly. This wasn’t what I hoped would happen when I came here, “Take me to any bar. I need a drink or two”
Without asking any questions, my chauffeur drove off. Although, I knew that it would be difficult to find a bar opened at this time, it’s too early but desperate time calls for desperate measures. I need a goddamn drink now.
After driving for almost three hours, the car eventually came to a stop.
“We are here, ma’am” he said as the parked in a front of a small but cozy bar.
Good.
I came down, went straight to the bartender and ordered vodka. He didn’t waste any time, it was as if he could sense the urgency. I took the bottle and got very comfortable on one of the empty seats before my taste bud had the free will to take over.
The liquor burned my throat, giving me that satisfaction Austin couldn’t give. I didn’t know how many shot I took but I knew that I couldn’t stop and before I knew what was happening, the bar was crowded, which only meant that it was late.
“Damn! Looks like you’re having a really bad day” A stranger said as he made himself very comfortable on the empty seat beside me, without any invitation.
I was quiet but this stranger didn’t take the clue that he wasn’t invited. He went on, “You’ve finished an entire bottle of vodka. Yet you’re still sipping the drink in your cup. You shouldn’t drink anymore”
I smiled and carried my red cup, grateful that I already paid the bills when my vision wasn’t blurry. Presently, I can barely stand but I cannot continue to listen to this stranger. I don’t even trust the words of my mouth so I stood.
“Hey” he said and quickly helped me as I stumbled.
I swear, I wanted to push him of me, he could be a thief for all I know but I couldn’t move my own hands. He held my waist and assisted me out of the bar, I pointed to the cars parked, trying to show him mine but all cars looked similar so I couldn’t identify it.
Damnit.
“Do you have a car or need a ride?” He asked but I shook my head and took a sip of the liquor in my red cup. It should help clear my vision.
“Ms. Lana.” I heard faintly. It sounded like my chauffeur.
Thank Goodness.
“I will take it from here, please she’s my boss” my chauffeur explained to the stranger but it seemed he wasn’t convinced so he turned to me ask, “Do you know him?”
I nodded and the next thing I knew was that my alarm was blaring so loud that it could deafen anyone.
“Oh just shut up” I yelled and off the damn alarm.
Memories of the bar scene flooded my mind and I still couldn’t remember the face of the stranger that helped me or how I got to my bed. I was still dressed in my yesterday outfit and I needed to be at the site in less than two hours.
Damn! I dragged myself out of my bed to my bathroom.
******************
Walking around with my dark shades on, and inspecting the buildings in the estate with my supervisor, was very exhausting. I made a few adjustments to the ongoing work, ensuring it met my clients' meticulous standards for development but I still felt a bit hungover from the yesterday’s excess alcohol in my system.
"As long as everything is fixed in this building before this weekend, you won't have any problems with me," I pointed to the tallest building amongst others, and he nodded. However, our attention was diverted as an angry driver sped towards us.
"Geez. Whoever this person is, better have a valid reason for coming here in such a manner," I said, a hint of irritation in my voice.
Just then, a dark, towering figure emerged from the black GLE, standing over 6 feet tall with a muscular frame, dressed entirely in black shirt and suit. His air of wealth was unmistakable and I immediately took off my shades.
"What do you want on my property?" he demanded furiously, his voice alone was very authoritative and breathtaking.
Crazy combo.
"I think you have it all confused," My supervisor interjected, casting a glance at me to say something. But my brain felt numb as I was still dazed by the stunning presence before me.
The imposing man pointed to the buildings and reiterated, "This entire estate is mine, and I am not mistaken."
I caught a glimpse of ink peeking out from under his sleeve, sparking my curiosity about the tattoos adorning his body. However, my illegal thoughts were disrupted as both men continued to argue about the property.
"Can you both please be quiet? I need to make a phone call," I interjected, finally making them aware of my presence.
Surprisingly, they fell silent immediately, allowing me to speak with one of my trusted clients. On the call, he confirmed to have sold the property to Mr. Clinton a few hours ago, and didn’t expect Mr. Clinton to be at the estate till I was informed about the changes, which I found astonishing, as I presumed Mr. Clinton to be the young man before me. Well, I was unbothered, as my client had already paid for the project in full. Additionally, he mentioned another estate he relocated to that needed my company to develop as soon as possible. I agreed and ended the call.
"You must be Mr. Clinton, the new owner of this estate," I said curtly, and he nodded."Richard Clinton."
He stretched out his hand for a handshake.
“Lana, CEO of Silver Tower," I introduced myself with a small smile, sneaking a peek at the tattoo under his sleeve.
“I’ve heard a lot about you and your work. I must say you look more beautiful in person” He said with a smirk.
I know a flirt when I see one and he is definitely one. My exact type.
