Chapter 1: More than a dream

The sun went down slowly and left a warm orange light over the festival grounds. The air was thick with the sweet smell of flowers from the Pearl Gardens. Everywhere you looked, people were laughing and enjoying the music in the distance. It was a very happy night for everyone. The lights of the festival began to twinkle like small stars against the dark sky. For Lyra Martin, this night felt like the start of something very big.
Lyra Martin was twenty seven years old. She was a talented songwriter from the town of Dalaz. She stood backstage and held her wooden guitar very tight against her chest. Her dark brown hair fell in soft curls around her face. Her hazel eyes looked bright and wide because she was very nervous. Lyra had waited a long time for this single night. She looked through the black curtains and saw many people waiting in the crowd. There were hundreds of faces looking toward the stage. Her hands were a bit sweaty and her heart was beating like a drum. She took a deep breath to calm herself. She fixed her guitar strap, stood up straight, and walked out into the bright white lights.
Under the lights, she felt a sudden surge of bravery. The heat of the lamps felt warm on her skin. Her fingers moved across the guitar strings with a soft touch. She began to play a song she wrote when she was ten years old. The song was about the happy times and the sad times from her life. Every person in the crowd stayed very quiet as she sang. They could feel the deep emotion in her voice. It was a voice that told a story of hope and love.
In the crowd stood a man named Ethan Thompson. He was tall and looked very serious, but his eyes were soft as he watched the stage. He did not look away from Lyra for even a second. He felt like the music was special and different from anything he had heard before. It felt like the song was written just for him. The music made a connection between them that was better than words. When the song ended, the silence lasted for a heartbeat before everyone clapped very loudly. Lyra looked into the sea of people and her eyes met Ethans eyes. For a moment, the world around them seemed to stop. They did not speak, but they understood each other perfectly. It was a silent promise.
When she walked off the stage, her friends ran to her with big smiles. They gave her many hugs and kisses. Lyra felt a wave of relief and pride. She was so happy that she had finally shared her music with the world. Then, Ethan walked out from the crowd to meet her. He moved with a quiet grace and had a very kind smile on his face.

"You were great up there," he said to her. His voice was low and very honest. It was a voice that made Lyra feel safe.

Lyra smiled back at him. She felt very happy to hear those words from a stranger who looked so important. She looked at the shape of his face and his dark eyelashes. He looked like a very charming and successful man, yet he was humble.

"Thanks," she said softly. She looked at her friends who were waiting for her to join them for a celebration. "I have to go now."

Ethan kept looking at her with a steady gaze.
"Let me drive you home," he offered. He wanted to spend more time getting to know the girl with the hazel eyes.

"No, thank you," Lyra whispered. Her heart was beating fast again, but for a different reason this time. She liked the way he looked at her, but she was not ready to say yes.
"Wait," he called out as she started to walk away into the shadows. "Can I at least know your name?"

"Lyra Martin," she said as she looked back over her shoulder. The moonlight caught her eyes and made them shine.

He smiled and nodded her name to himself.
"That is a lovely name, Miss Lyra. I am Ethan Thompson. How can I see you again?"
Lyra wanted to see if he would really try to find her. She liked a bit of a mystery.
"Find me in Dallas," she said softly. Then she turned and walked away into the busy crowd.
"I will find you," Ethan promised quietly to himself. He stood there for a long time even after she was gone.

Lyra walked away with her best friend Olivia. The streetlights made long shadows on the sidewalk as they walked toward the car. Olivia laughed and nudged her arm.

"That man Ethan really likes you, Lyra. He watched you the whole time you were on stage. He did not even blink."

Lyra just smiled and kept her thoughts to herself. She felt a lot of energy and heat inside her chest. She hoped that meeting him was more than just a dream that would disappear in the morning.

The next morning, the city was very busy and loud. Ethan Thompson was in his big office. It was on the top floor of a very tall building that touched the clouds. He was the CEO of a very big company called Eagle Peak Holdings. His office had massive glass windows. From his desk, you could see the whole city skyline and the blue ocean in the distance. Usually, Ethan loved the view, but he was not looking at the city today.

He was thinking about Lyra. He could not forget the sound of her guitar or the way she sang with so much heart. He sat at his glass desk and tried to work on his daily tasks. He looked at reports and numbers, but he kept seeing her smile in his mind. He felt like his life was changing in a way he did not expect. He had all the money and success he wanted, but he felt like something was missing until he heard her song.

His phone rang loudly on the desk. It was his old friend Pedro.
"Ethan!" Pedro shouted into the phone. "The new hotel project is a big success! The papers are signed. We need to celebrate tonight!"
Ethan laughed. Pedro was always very loud and full of life. He was a good friend who knew how to have fun. "What is the plan, Pedro?"

"Let us meet for a fancy dinner," Pedro said. "I am in town for only one night before I fly back. Let us go to a party and see the city."
"Okay," Ethan said. He needed a break from his own thoughts. "What time should we meet?"

"Nine PM is good," Pedro told him. "Wear something nice!"
"I will be there," Ethan said and hung up the phone. He tried to go back to his work, but his mind kept drifting back to the music festival. He imagined holding Lyras hand. He wanted to hear her speak to him again in that soft voice.

Later that afternoon, his assistant Ashley knocked on the door. She came in with a warm smile and a cup of coffee.
"Sir, your next meeting is starting now in the board room."

Ethan stood up and fixed his blue silk tie. He adjusted his jacket and took a deep breath.
"Thanks, Ashley. Tell them to come in."
The meeting was very long and tiring. People talked about business plans, profits, and new buildings. Ethan pretended to listen to every word. He nodded his head and looked at the charts, but he was really thinking about the girl from Dallas. He wondered what she was doing at that very moment. When the meeting finally finished, Ashley brought him some more papers to sign.

"You look very happy today, sir," Ashley said as she watched him sign his name. "Why are you smiling so much? Is it the hotel project?"

Ethan looked up at her and his eyes were bright. "It is not just the project, Ashley. I met a very beautiful girl last night. She is a singer."
Ashley smiled back at him. She was happy for her boss. "That is great news, sir. You work too hard. I will clear your work for the rest of the day so you can leave the office early."
"Thank you, Ashley. You are always very helpful"

Ethan said. He felt lucky to have a good team around him.
Now Ethan was alone in his office again as the sun began to set. He thought about how he would actually find Lyra. Dallas was a very big city with many thousands of houses and millions of people. Lyra told him to find her there, but she did not give him a phone number. She did not give him an address. Most men would think it was just a game and give up, but Ethan was not a man who gave up easily.

He felt in his heart that they were supposed to meet for a reason. He wanted to hear her sing another song. He wanted to spend real time with her and learn her secrets. He looked at his watch. Time was moving slowly.

His phone buzzed on the glass desk. It was a text from Pedro: "Do not forget! I will see you at the club at nine PM tonight! Do not be late!"

Ethan stood up and put on his expensive black coat. He looked out at the lights of the city of Dallas. Somewhere out there in those lights, Lyra was living her life. He was going to find her, no matter how much work or time it took. He felt a sense of excitement and joy he had not felt in a very long time. He knew that their story was just beginning, and he could not wait to see what happened next. He walked out of his office with a strong step, ready to face the night.
